Black's Law Dictionary 2nd Edition (1910)

$25.00

I have a page for page photo of the Second Edition Of Blacks Law Dictionary I have placed on CD. This Second Edition was published in 1910 during and at the beginning of the time that America went wild writing laws. From 1909 to 1914 there were over 60,000 statues passed and over 60,000 Supreme Court rulings. About 10 times or more Laws written in those few years than the history of the Country prior to these years put together. The Author of this Dictionary was still alive and had control of its contents. This is the Last of Henry Campbell Black’s Actual work. His third edition did not come until 1933 (six years after his death) and while a lot of his original works were contained in the third and even some up now to the seventh edition, the Mutatis Mutandis floods his latter editions. It makes you wonder why it is still called Black’s. The same as the original Noah Webster’s work still selling as Webster’s but only the base of his work exist in the modern editions. Interestingly enough I should point out the change of the word "Federal". Henry Campbell Black may not have been as duped as others as to the original meaning of the word Federal for he does maintain some 90 % of it original meaning (1789 original) with just a hint of broadening its true and narrowed meaning kept documented all along through Noah Webster’s Dictionary. The Civil war may have been won by the sword but to maintain that victory many established word meanings had to be changed. "Federal" being one of them.. Noah Webster maintained a certain definition throughout all his life and each edition there of. Even when George and Charles Merriam bought out the rights to continue the publication of Webster’s (know now as Merriam Webster) work after his death these words maintained the definitions left by Noah Webster. It should not be considered coincidental then, that all the way up to the year 1861 (In the first year of the Civil war) that such definitions remained as a settled meaning even through the 1863 edition. But in 1864 the war not yet over (but clear as to where it was going) that very years' edition falsified many words. Federal was one of them and even falsified the meaning of the United States’ motto (E Pluribus Unum). These false definitions went out to every American buyer, but The London edition was not changed in 1864 like the American edition. London's word students were given the correct definitions for years to come. In 1877 the London Edition stated that errors and corrections of their 1864 edition was to be affected which it then made the changes so that Britain wouldn’t be confused on these words and wondering why their editions were stating the old meanings for 13 years. I have the dictionaries on hand so I know. Many other key governmental words were also part of this immediate "Civil war" change. Some of you should have access to the original Noah Webster Dictionary at least by facsimile. If you do, then please compare it to the modern Webster’s. Also the Law dictionaries reflect the same "conspiracy" (As I would word it). I also wonder why the Law dictionaries do not define E Pluribus Unum. Blacks first through the fifth (I have no others) some how just leaves it out. And you know it has something to do with Law if it is Our Motto that reflects our government image and meaning, oh well, who am I to ask? I’m just a shade tree constitutionalist and a tyro historian. Now back to Black’s second edition. This dictionary is Pre- world war I and II So there will be many original meanings still in this edition. As new words and phrases came from these conflicts, and new laws passed, some negating the old way, or at least appearing to have that effect. It is very import to study word meaning when studying law. ORDER BLACK'S LAW DICTIONARY FIRST AND SECOND EDITION AS A PACKAGE AND RECEIVE BOTH VERSIONS FOR $38! THAT'S A $12 SAVINGS!
